About Our Hunts and Area
Lucky 8 Ranch is licensed and registered Colorado hunting outfitter. We are firm believers in fair chase hunting. One-shot, one kill! We monitor the ranch all year and use our knowledge of the terrain and animal movements to provide you with the best hunting experience. We will employ different types of hunting strategies, based on weather, experience, fitness, and comfort. Be prepared to work if you are hunting elk. The ranch has varying terrain, from scrub oak and aspen groves to wide-open hay meadows, ravines, draws, saddles, lookouts, creek bed, and breathtaking views. We start early and end late. Our camp is conveniently located for ease of access.

Unit 131 is a great unit in Routt County. It is the least hunted unit in Routt County. GMU 131 (about 1288 hunters on average per year) and has an above-average success rate compared to all other GMU's in Colorado. The success rate fluctuates from many different variables. The largest factor is the weather. Being able to hunt on private land increases that probability significantly. We cannot guarantee a successful hunt, but we can guarantee a great hunting experience.

Archery (AVAILABLE)
Archery is our favorite time to hunt. It is also the most challenging. Archery is very primitive and you have to work for your harvest. Our guides live for this season. Choosing the best week is very difficult for us to suggest. Every year is different. The early days usually give a better chance at a larger bull, whereas in the latter days the elk are more vocal and easier to locate.

We offer one 5 or 7-Day Hunt During Archery Season.
or
Two 5 or 7-Day Hunts During Archery, if booked before a Muzzleloader Hunt.

Muzzleloader (BOOKED)
Another primitive style of hunting is where you need focus, composure, and diligence in your shooting skills. You will usually only get one shot because by the time you reload the animal will be long gone. You must also be comfortable shooting your firearm at 100 yards.
Colorado Law requires hunters to wear a blaze orange vest and hat.
We offer one 5-Day or 7-Day Hunt During Muzzleloader, during the 3rd week of Archery
or
If 2 5-Day or 7-Day Archery Hunts book before Muzzleloader, we will not offer a Muzzleloader Hunt.

Rifle (2nd, 3rd & 4th Available)
Do you consider yourself a sharpshooter? It is not uncommon to take an Elk from well over 100 yards in Colorado. However, we prefer to have a closer shot. During rifle, we have many stands, blinds, and lookouts to choose from. Spot and stalk your prey or be patient and wait for your chance.
